August is National Dog Month, and here at Oak Grove Kennel, we couldn’t be more excited for a whole month dedicated to celebrating our loyal, lovable canine companions. Dogs are more than just pets, they’re family. Whether they’re curled up at our feet, bounding through the yard, or waiting at the door with a wagging tail, dogs make our lives better in countless ways.

Did you know? National Dog Month was established in 2020 by the folks at Milk-Bone to celebrate all the ways dogs enhance our lives. It’s now a nationwide recognition of the bond between people and their pups.
Why Dogs Deserve a Whole Month of Celebration
Dogs offer us more than just companionship. They enrich our lives in deep and meaningful ways:
Loyal Companions: Dogs love without conditions. Whether you've had a long day or you're feeling your best, their joy in seeing you never changes.
Mood Boosters: Studies show that spending time with dogs can reduce stress, anxiety, and even lower blood pressure. Their presence alone can be a source of calm and happiness.
Built-in Exercise Buddies: Dogs get us moving! Walks, playtime, and adventures are part of life with a dog, and they help keep both of you active and healthy.
Connection Makers: Ever notice how dog people find each other? Whether at the park or the vet's office, dogs help us connect with our neighbors and community.
This month is a great time to slow down and recognize the everyday ways our dogs make life better.
Fun Dog Facts to Make You Smile
Looking to add a little extra appreciation for dogs this August? Here are a few fun facts you might not know:
Dogs have a sense of time – and they really do miss you when you’re gone. Studies show dogs can sense how long you've been away.
The most popular dog name in the U.S. is "Luna" for females and "Max" for males, according to the AKC.
Dogs' noses are wet to help absorb scent chemicals, making them highly effective sniffers.
A dog’s sense of smell is 40 times greater than ours. Bloodhounds can track scents over great distances and even help in search and rescue efforts.
Why do they tilt their heads? Some researchers believe dogs tilt their heads to better locate sounds and understand what you're saying.
